Grand Hotel host chess competition for a cause

-

NINETEEN players, all under the age of 13, took part in last week’s Chess for Autism evening.

A total of €230 was raised for the ASD Group and they were delighted as well.

Organiser Seamus Duffy said he had been heartened to see such a good mix of boys and girls in attendance. Some of the competitors came from outside Wicklow and even two were tourists from the US. The funds raised will help teenagers and young adults with autism to go on trips and help with organising events.

The final results were as follows: 1. Lucy Bueckert 5/6 (On tie break) 2. Diana Bueckert 5/6 3. Kyle Spratt (On tie break) Best Girl. Alaoise Geraghty 4/6 Best Under 14. William Smith 4/6 Best Under 11. David Lasuncion 4.5/6 Best Under 8. Helen Bueckert 3.5/6.

Mr Duffy thanked the staff of the Grand Hotel who had provided the room free and to Manuel Gardenes for his help and support at the event.
