Jody Merrigan got the home side on the score-sheet again after three minutes of the second period and Eddie Doyle added another from a free.

At this stage Stephen Duffy entered the fray as a substitute for St Pats. Stephen went on to score four points for Pats in the remainder of the second half and his trusty left leg constitute­d the only real scoring threat from the visitors. Eddie Doyle had a point from play in the tenth minute and Rathnew’s only other scores in the last 20 minutes came from Leighton Glynn.

One came after 15 minutes and the final point came two minutes into time added on.

Stephen Duffy accounted for all of the Pats points in the second half bar the final point which was scored by centre back Shane Morley.

This left the final score at 1-12 to 0-9 in favour of the Rathnew men.
