Clár funding for local community groups

-

COMMUNITY groups and schools in Wicklow are to benefit from Clár funding, it has been announced.

Through the scheme, Greenane Ballinacor received funding for Greenane footpaths and public lighting; Knockananna Village and MUGA received funding for an extension of footpaths and a car park beside the playground; Rathcoyle had success for roadmarkings; Scoil Brid, Knockananna, for upgrading existing road markings; and Coolballintagert, Knockananna Village, were successful for signage and public lighting.

The funding was welcomed by Minister of State Andrew Doyle who outlined that the latest round of funds are being allocated for safety measures in local groups and schools.

‘ The funding under this latest round of the Clár Programme will allow for the installation of safety measures such as pedestrian crossings, flashing lights and speed indicators in villages and adjacent to schools and community facilities. These measures will help to keep not only our children, but all those who live in CLÁR areas, safe, which is very welcome,’ he said.

A total of €4.8 million has been allocated to 170 projects in rural areas across the country.
