Minister visits Co Wicklow PPN

- By MYLES BUCHANAN

CO Wicklow Public Participation Network welcomed Minister of State for Rural Development and Natural Resources Sean Kyne to Wicklow town on Tuesday last.

The Minister is currently visiting Public Participation Networks (PPNs) around the country and familiarising himself and the Department of Rural and Community Development with their work.

PPNs were set up in every local authority area in 2014. They actively support community groups in finding out about local and national policy and decision-making and ensure they have opportunities to have their say and shape it. The PPN also provides information and training opportunities to help community groups do the valuable work they do at local level.

Helen Howes, Resource Worker for Co Wicklow PPN said: ‘ The minister showed great support for the role and work of PPNs in general. Coming from Galway, he understood the diversity within our county and the differing rural and urban elements. He seemed particularly interested in our work to develop “Our Vision for Community Wellbeing” in each of the Wicklow Municipal Districts which began earlier this year in Baltinglass and is being rolled out across the county at the moment.’

Officials from Wicklow County Council were in attendance and they, with the Secretariat of Co Wicklow PPN, highlighted the good working relationships between the PPN, the local authority and Wicklow Travellers Group which hosts the PPN.
