Follow the Camino supporting Purple House
TO celebrate St James’ Day, the feast day of the saint of which the famous Camino de Santiago was named, Follow the Camino is hosting an extra special group hike in the Dublin Mountains with all proceeds going to Purple House Cancer Support Group in Bray.
As the original Camino de Santiago tour planners, they couldn’t let this important date pass without marking it – so they’re putting an Irish spin on the Spanish celebration by inviting clients, friends and anyone who wants to get active to join them on their own ‘Way’.
All proceeds from all of their events this year will be donated to Purple House Cancer Support in Bray.
The group will meet on Saturday, July 28, at the main car park at Marlay Park at 10 a.m. for some light stretching and a brief introduction to the Camino de Santiago.
From there, they will walk 10km of the Wicklow Way, all the way to Johnnie Fox’s pub, for some optional lunch, socialising and sharing tips and stories about the Camino de Santiago.
The fee for taking part is €10 which will go to Purple House.
‘Purple House provide an invaluable service to the community, giving practical support, emotional support and compassion to the thousands of families dealing with a diagnosis,’ said Jane Casey, communications manager for Follow The Camino. ‘ They also believe that exercise and staying active can play a huge role in good mental health and physical well-being – an ethos we share at Follow The Camino – so the partnership is an excellent fit.
‘On a personal level, my mum (Caroline Casey) used their services back in the 1990s and I know they offered her kindness, support and compassion when she was diagnosed and throughout her treatment. Next month marks 20 years since she lost her battle, so it means even more to be able to help such an important organisation.’
