Almost 150 entries for show

-

THERE were over 140 entries at the Tom Kennedy Memorial Vintage Show held in Eugene Steven’s field in Ashford over the weekend.

The annual show has gone from strength to strength since its inauguration a number of years ago by the late Tom Kennedy, who at the time was attending St Anne’s Oncology Ward in St Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin. Tom was eager to give some support back to the ward for the wonderful care he was receiving.

On his sad passing, The Garden of Ireland Vintage Car Club decided to keep the show going in his memory, and, to date, it has raised in excess of €12,000 for St Anne’s Oncology Ward over the past seven years.

Some of the cars, trucks and bikes on display on Sunday hailed back as far as 1910. Tony Behan from Rathnew returned home as the winner of the much coveted Car of the Show award. A dog show was also held on the day.

The vintage show has grown considera- bly over the past seven years and this year raised €2,058. Plans are already underway for the 2019 Tom Kennedy Memorial Vintage Show.

Meanwhile, participants from all over Europe usually attend the Liam Kelly Memorial Run taking place on September 8 and 9, which heads across the Wicklow Mountains. The event is also organised by the Garden of Ireland Vintage Car Club and will also feature a poker run taking place with some excellent prizes.
