Concert in aid of Sr Mary Killeen
SOPRANO Lorna Breen, tenor Andrew Gavin and accompanist Mairead Hurley will perform a series of opera arias, Irish airs and pieces by Gilbert and Sullivan at Calary Church this weekend.
The concert begins at 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 22, and will help raise funds for Sister Mary Killeen’s work with street children in the slums of Nairobi.
Lorna is an accomplished singer from County Wicklow and studies under the tutelage of Dr Veronica Dunne and Dr Dearbhla Collins. In 2017, she graduated with Distinction from the Masters in Music Performance course at the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) having previously obtained a first class honours degree from the RIAM in 2015.
Andrew is a graduate of the RIAM where he studied under Mary Brennan. His career has seen him involved in many opera and cantata performances across Ireland and the UK.
Mairead studied piano under Rhona Marshall at the RIAM and music at UCD, graduating with a BMus. Further studies include the repetiteur’s course at the London Opera Studio and a first class honours MMus degree (performance) at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama.
