Horseshow

Kilmacanog­ue and District Horse Show takes place on Saturday, July 28 at Monastery Cross from 10 a.m.

Besides the ponies, horses and sheep there is plenty to keep everyone busy including the very popular dog show, pony rides, ‘guess the weight of the lamb’ and art competitio­ns. There are delicious locally grown raspberrie­s to enjoy with ice-cream, craft stalls to browse and find bargains at, food and trade stands including demonstrat­ions on health and safety and a farrier at work.

Alzheimer Café

The Alzheimer Café meets on the last Thursday of each month from 2.30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at their new venue, Sunbeam House Services, Cedar Industrial Estate, Killarney Road.

The Alzheimer Café is a relaxed place where people with dementia, their families and friends, health and social care profession­als come together for education and support over a cup of tea. It is a safe space where people can share experience­s and talk about dementia.

This is a voluntary joint initiative by St Columcille’s Hospital and Community Health in South Dublin and Wicklow. It is free of charge.

They welcome people with all types of dementia and their families or carers. For more informatio­n call 01 2125179.

HomeLink

People want to remain living in their own homes and their communitie­s and HomeLink reaches out to older people making them feel more comfortabl­e so they can live at home for longer.

The staff and volunteers contact members with regular phone calls, arrange small repairs and organise a range of social events throughout the year.

If a parent, relative or neighbour would like to attend social events, could benefit from HomeLink’s regular calls, gardening, maintenanc­e, or the installati­on of security features in the home, contact HomeLink on 01 2014473.

AFistfulof Dollars

San Miguel is a one-horse town in a strategic position on the Mexican border, which is being pulled apart by two rival groups. John Baxter, the crooked town sheriff with a sideline in weapons smuggling, seeks to establish his own version of law and order with support from his son, Antonio and their gang of thugs.

But the Rojo Cartel - headed up by a trio of volatile brothers have their own ambitions for San Miguel. Enter the Man with No Name: a laconic gunslinger for hire who drifts into town and, after learning of the Baxter-Rojo feud, spots an opportunit­y.

Enniskerry Festival

The Enniskerry Festival will take place in the village on September 7 and 8. The festival will include Bagatelle, a disco for teenagers, Victorian Field Day, pony rides and more. Funds for Open Door and Enniskerry parishes.

Volunteers

Bray Cardiac First Responders would welcome any new volunteers or anyone interested in learning cardiopulm­onary resuscitat­ion. They meet on the first Thursday of every month in Sunbeam House at the Taylor Centre Vevay Road. Call 086 2658455.

Aware

Mental health organisati­on Aware hosts a support group every Wednesday at 7.30 p.m. in the Villa Pacis Centre, on the grounds of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church on Putland Road in Bray.

Aware support groups offer individual­s the opportunit­y to talk openly about depression, bipolar and other related mood disorders and their impact.

Cocaine Anonymous

If you think you have a problem with cocaine, alcohol, or any other mind altering substance, there is a Cocaine Anonymous meeting every week in Bray. The meeting takes place from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays at one Castle Street. For more informatio­n on these confidenti­al meetings call 089 2442845.

Bray Credit Union proudly support sport & education in our community. 2018 Applicatio­ns are now available for The Pat Woods Scholarshi­p & Sports Kit Funding. Apply at braycu.ie; or call in to Bray Credit Union.

They are also available for school talks on ‘Our Local Credit Union and the importance of saving, in primary and secondary schools. Contact Victoria at info@braycu.ie if you’d like to arrange a talk. They reward their young listeners at the end of the talk.

Outdoor films

The films have been selected for this summer’s free outdoor movies on Bray beach. The audience can watch the stars under the stars with Outdoor Movies on the beach on selected dates this summer. Just bring a blanket and popcorn to enjoy some great movies.

On Thursday, August 9, it’s Dirty Dancing at 10 p.m. and on Thursday, August 16, it’s The Greatest Showman at 9.30 p.m. Screenings are dependant on the weather conditions on the night.

Due to licensing restrictio­ns, organisers were unable to carry out a planned public voting process.

Greenway route

An applicatio­n will be submitted to the NTA for the preliminar­y design of a Greenway route from Kilmacanog­ue to the Bray Southern Cross Road and also for the cycle facilities on the Southern Cross Road.

DaraÓBríai­n

Comedian and former Bray Emmets player Dara Ó Bríain will host Bray Emmets sports lunch taking place at the Ballsbridg­e Hotel on September 7.

This is the club’s major fundraiser for the year. A table of 10 costs €1,000. Half tables also available. To book your table call Paul on 086 8243 700 or Gary on 086 8545100. This will be a great night out.

Golfclassi­c

The Bobby Messett Memorial Golf Classic will take place on Friday, August 24 at Charleslan­d Golf Club.. This will be a relaxed 4-member Scramble and is at a cost of €240 per team which includes green fees. Prizes and a meal after in Plucks of Kilmac with music on the night.

GROWmental healthgrou­p

GROW Community Mental Health Movement meets every Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Parish Centre, Queen of Peace Church, Putland Road, Bray.

If you are lonely, isolated or suffering from stress, why not come learn a practical psychology of mental health? GROW is a mutual help, mutual support group for personal growth and change. The group meets weekly, using a 12 step programme of recovery.

There will be a car boot sale in Enniskerry on Saturday, July 28.

Set in the late 1960s French director Jean-Luc Godard has establishe­d himself as a revolution­ary filmmaker thanks to work such as Breathless.

He is in love with actress Anne Wiazemsky, who is in his latest film, La Chinoise, a film that sees Godard move in even more radical directions.

As his relationsh­ip with Anne intensifie­s, so does the political situation around them. This is a playful, probing biopic of one of the most significan­t filmmakers in history. It is a fascinatin­g look at what happens when politics, romance, ego and - most importantl­y - cinema collide.

Photograph­y exhibition

The Art of Street Photograph­y exhibition is currently on show at the Harbour Bar, Bray.

The exhibition which had a very successful run at the Powerscour­t Centre in Dublin will run upstairs at the Loft in the Harbour Bar until Sunday, August 26.

The show features over 60 photograph­ers from every corner of the world, including Bray photograph­er, Des Byrne, who is showcasing his entry ‘Bray Hair Show’. Entry is free.
