-

AT the recent national rowing championships held in Cork, rowers from the Three Castles Rowing Club put in some outstanding performances. Aaron Keogh and Luke Flynn were superb in the under-18 single and double sculls.

Aaron cruised through the heats and semi and went on to take silver in the final of the single sculls. It was by won Ryan Spelman from the St Michael’s club in Limerick in a large field of 30 scullers. Hopefully gold next year for Aaron in this toughest of events. Jonathan Grace, Tiernan McKnight and Darragh O’Brien put in good performances but narrowly missed out qualifying from the heats.

In the junior double sculls Aaron and Luke cruised through the preliminary rounds to take silver in the final.

The favorites and winners from Castleconnel controlled the race from the blocks but Aaron and Luke came from 5th at halfway to take bronze.

Hopefully next year they can take the gold medal. Caolan Hig- gins joined Jonathan, Tiernan and Darragh in the junior quad event. The 17-years-olds narrowly missed on qualifying for the final but all can race again next year.

In the intermediate single sculls Tadgh Mc Knight had to race incredibly hard in the heat and semi to reach the final. Tadgh took bronze in the final a great result for the 18-year-old.

In the under-16 women’s sculls, Emily Irwin won her heat in style but narrowly missed out qualifying for the final in the semi. Orla O’Loughlin won her final of the under-15 single sculls in which she controlled the race from the halfway mark.

In the under-15 boys single sculls, Robert Collins, Daniel Devaney and Eoin McLoughlin all racing in different finals .They finished 3rd, 4th, and 5th, great results from the boys.

Luke Flynn raced in the quad scull event at the international Homes regatta held in Cork last weekend. His crew came third behind Wales and Scotland. Great experience for Luke on his first occasion rowing for Ireland.
