Creative Kathleen died on her 88th birthday
Kathleen Lynam (née Keogh) died peacefully at Naas General Hospital in the company of her family on her 88th birthday – August 13, 2018.
Kathleen was born in Talbotstown, Kiltegan, the only daughter of Bridget and John Keogh. She was the beloved sister of the late Jack Keogh, who emigrated to the USA, and the late Peter Keogh, former President of Wicklow GAA.
At a young age, Kathleen left Kiltegan and went to work in Burtown House in south Kildare. There she met and later married Lar Lynam. They lived, with their ten children in Mullaghmast, Athy, until Lar’s death in 1986.
Kathleen then moved to Castledermot where she lived happily amongst family, neighbours and many friends until her passing.
Those that knew her will remember the kind, loving, generous and forgiving nature of Kathleen.
She had a lifetime affinity with Talbotstown and Kiltegan and in particular with the Kiltegan Fathers, who she visited on a regular basis.
Kathleen had a lot of triumphs in life but the greatest of all was the day she finally passed her driving test at the age of 79.
One of her great passions in life was playing cards. She had been known to see the sun go down and come up again while playing.
Kathleen was a very artistic, creative person and this could be seen in the many beautiful creations she knitted. She was a very colourful character and has been immortalised in both print and on screen for some of her exploits.
Kathleen will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her many friends and neighbours.
The family is very grateful to Kathleen’s home care team who looked after her so well and to the staff of Naas General Hospital.
Kathleen’s funeral Mass took place at The Church of the Assumption, Castledermot, and she was laid to rest in Crookstown cemetary. Ar dheis dé go raibh a anam.
