Meetings for coastal and community organisations

-

CO WICKLOW PPN will be hosting a number of information meetings in the coming weeks aimed at coastal communities and community groups.

The first meeting takes place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, and is aimed at coastal community groups interested in finding out about funding opportunities, project support and environmental initiatives.

The meeting will take place in An Tairseach Ecology Centre at the Dominican College in Wicklow town. Speakers from the Local Waters and Communities Office, Wicklow County Council, and the South East Fisheries Local Action Group will provide information about funding coastal enterprise and activity, supporting water conservation projects, how to get involved in Coastwatch Survey 2018, and the Brittas Bay Biodiversity Study. The meeting will also examine the possibility of setting up a coastal community network for future information sharing.

Booking is advisable. To reserve a place, contact either Helen Howes on 087 1895145 or countywicklowppn@gmail.com or Deirdre Burns on (0404) 40191 or dburns@wicklowcoco.ie.

The following week, two workshops will take place in Wicklow town and Annamoe to support community groups to develop their vision for community well-being for this and future generations.

Following on from a similar process in the west and north of the county, Co Wicklow Public Participation Network (PPN) is bringing together community and voluntary groups to develop a vision for community well-being for the Wicklow Municipal District.

‘Although we sometimes think about well-being in terms of good physical and mental health, it can also describe the wider conditions we need as individuals and communities to have a better quality of life, a healthier environment and increased prosperity,’ said Helen Howes, Resource Worker with Co Wicklow PPN.

‘Some of these are things that we can easily measure, like the number of pre-school places, or the speed with which an ambulance can get to a sick person. Others are less easily measured, such as our pride of place, our heritage and the way in which we all look after each other.’

Community and voluntary groups working in the Wicklow district are invited to come along and represent their group’s views.

The meetings will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18, in An Tairseach Ecology Centre and at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19, in Annamoe Community Centre.
