Coolkenno overcome gallant Kilcoole outfit
COOLKENNO 3-9 KILCOOLE 1-5
COOLKENNO deservedly won the under-12 B cup after a hard fought victory over a brave Kilcoole side.
Kilcoole started brightly with Sophie Dowds striking a beautiful point through the uprights.
However, Coolkenno hit the front minutes later when wing forward Sienna Dunne raced through on goal before drilling past Millie Merriman in the Kilcoole goal.
Ruby Keogh, who was excellent in midfield, got her first point from the next attack.
Kilcoole came right back with Maeve Butler hitting two excellent points to close the gap to one. Keogh responded for Coolkenno.
The pivotal goal came on 22 minutes.
A long Keogh ball into the area saw it break between players and Orlaith Donaghue reacted fastest to toe-poke home.
When Dunne added two points the gap was out to seven. Coolkenno full-forward Emily McCarthy then hammered a shot home to put lead out to ten.
Kilcoole to their great credit never dropped their heads and closed out the first half scoring with points from Katie Wilson and Dowds.
The second half saw Coolkenno pulling away with points from Kelly Mernagh, McCarthy, Keogh, Dunne and Keogh again.
However, Kilcoole got the goal their efforts deserved late on when Dowds rocketed a scud missile to the Coolkenno net.
Coolkenno deserved their victory with Ruby Keogh and Sienna Dunne getting the plaudits how-
ever player of the match was full back Katelyn Farrell who repelled all Kilcoole’s attacks.
