Elvis, Talking Heads and Harry Potter films
Shaking off the end of summer blues, the Greystones Film Club is swivelling its hips with two of the greatest concert films ever.
On Wednesday, September 5, it’s Talking Heads’ seminal Stop Making Sense.
This sees David Byrne and co team up with director Jonathan Demme for a whisper-to-a-Kuti-scream stage production that begins with one man and his ghetto blaster and finishes with an all-star P-Funk-esque line-up that boasts the likes of Bernie Worrell and Nona Hendryx.
Screening at The Whale, the dance-floor will be put to good use for this rare big-screen outing that comes with surround-sound, a full bar and free popcorn.
Which is pretty much the same line-up on Wednesday, September 19, when Elvis: The ‘68 Comeback Special’ gets a 50th anniversary outing, complete with Wicklow’s answer to The King, the great Alan Adamson, as Master of Ceremonies. A comeback that would give Elvis a whole new career, teaming up with young director Steve Binder would give Presley the long-awaited chance to celebrate his Sun Studio roots whilst looking to the future with funky, big band productions, such as Guitar Man and A Little Less Conversation.
On Sumday, September 16 Greystones Film Club will hold its second Harry Potter revisit to the The Chamber Of Secrets. The film will be hitting the big screen at 2 p.m.
