Students stay cool with ice cream treat
THE official opening of Coláiste Ráithín secondary school in Bray has been marked by the company involved in completing its construction sponsoring free ice cream for everyone in the facility.
The school was one of a number of new education centres affected by the collapse of the UK company, Carillion, and as a result its scheduled opening date was put on hold.
However, Woodvale Construction Ltd. from Omagh was contracted to complete the works on a number of the Carillion related schools including Coláiste Ráithín.
While the students have already moved into the building the construction company last week decided to mark the new beginning and the end of summer with free ice cream for everyone.
The significance of the gesture did not go unnoticed and school Principal Traolach Ó Maolchathaigh told this newspaper that it was a brilliant thing for the company to do.
‘It was a wonderful gesture and it was really appreciated by everyone,’ he said.
‘We are really appreciative to the company and to its site manager, Eugene, for doing it because it was a really nice thing to do,’ he added.
Mr Ó Maolchathaigh said everyone has settled in comfortably to life in the school which has 284 pupils.
‘Everyone is looking forward now very positively and we are very grateful to everyone involved in helping the school make this positive step forward,’ he said.
‘We moved in last Wednesday and it’s been a very positive start,’ he added.
Mr Ó Maolchathaigh said the school will be holding an open door event for parents this evening, Wednesday, September 19, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. to give them an opportunity to view first-hand the building and facilities that all concerned ‘ have always wanted’.
