Brave Maeve wins Business to Arts award

-

BRAY’s ‘Brave Maeve Children’s Myth & Art Trail’ has won a prize in the Allianz Business to Arts Awards.

The awards were presented last week at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, with Brave Maeve winning ‘ best use of creativity in the community’.Bray Municipal District with Bray Credit Union, Megazyme and Platform Pizza, with Chris Judge and Donna Carroll created the trail and won the award. The new myth about a Bray landmark was installed as a series of murals along a one-kilometre children’s art trail. For the artwork, 50 children between the ages of four and eight workshopped a new story during two sessions about a sleeping child giant under Bray Head with children’s author and illustrator Chris Judge and visual arts curator Donna Carroll.

People can travel along the trail using a special map and read the story together with their family or simply use their imaginations and create their own adventure with Maeve and the creatures she meets. The story is told in a number of brightly coloured murals in various spots along the seafront.

These five murals are the result of a project created by visual arts curator Donna Carroll, designed by renowned children’s author and illustrator Chris Judge and installed by the wonderful team of Triskill Designs with the essential input of dozens of young Bray residents.

The story follows a young giant adventurer called Maeve as she sets out to find a home for her people and battles many monsters along the way.

The full story is available as a free PDF with an accompanying map, available via a link on bray.ie.
