St Peter’s made the ideal start to their Andy McEvoy Premier campaign as they edged out Newtown United 3-2 at the Matt Kelly Memorial Grounds on Sunday.

The Bray side took the lead in the 34th minute when Darren McAteer drove a left-footed strike to the net.

St Peter’s were then given the chance to double their tally in the 65th minute when they were awarded a penalty, and although Ken Turner did brilliantly to save the spot-kick, Chad Ryan was quickest to react and fired past the goalkeeper. With ten minutes remaining the visitors were three goals to the good thanks to a cool finish from Rian Greene.

Shane Doyle pulled a goal back moments later and added another deep into injury to put a better complexion on the scoreline for the Magpies.

Glencormac United and Arklow United ‘A’ came away with a point apiece after a 1-1 draw.

Shane Roche fired the Arklow outfit in front early on but Josh O’Callaghan rifled in a second-half equaliser after good work from James Delahunty.
