Garda forensic experts were inspecting the scene of a blaze which gutted two houses at Hollybrook, Bray over the weekend.

One of the houses destroyed in the fire on Sunday morning belongs to Bray Travel Holdings, a subsidiary of Bray Travel which collapsed amid major controversy several years ago.

Rahan House - once the home of the creator of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - which is an adjoining property, was also destroyed when the flames spread.

Two units of Bray Fire Brigade rushed to the scene after the alarm was raised at about 7 a.m. and crewmen battled the blaze for seven hours.

Local Gardai were making no comment on reports that the fire might have been malicious on Monday morning, other than to state that technical experts were on the scene inspecting the remains.
