The Soccer Academy training started back last Thursday at 6 p.m. under the guidance of Jason Minto. If you know of any children between the ages of 3 and seven that may be interested in talking part and looking for fun please let them know. All are welcome and it’s free to attend in Ryders Field.

The under-12s played Greystones and lost out 3-1 when a draw would have been a fair er result but that is football. This was however a great performance and a great game to watch between two evenly matched teams but the ball didn’t bounce our Glens way. Michael Prendergast got the goal and man of the match was Reuben Smith with a solid left back performance. The team missed their battler Cian Redden, who is now out injured till 2019 and all wish him a speedy recovery after a bad fall during the week.

Glencormac United under-14s beat Carnew at home 1-0. This was a very tough game for the Glens, who did controll the game from start to finish but just couldn’t create any clear-cut scoring chances and it remained 0-0 at halftime. The second half was much of the same as the first period but with about five minutes to go, Super sub John Fox ran onto a through ball and slotted the ball coolly past the keeper to give the lads all three points. Carnew were reduced to 10 men in the last minute for an outrageous off the ball kick at the Glens rightfull which has no place in football and well done to the team for not getting involved with all the silly nonsense that happened in the last few minutes of the game.

The senior team are back in the Wicklow Premier Division and kicked off their campaign on Sunday with a 1-1 draw at home to Arklow United. The Glens trailed to an early goal for most of the game but never gave up on battling back and were rewarded when Josh O’Callaghan smashed the ball into the net and despite all their efforts, could not find a winner. Luke Reynolds had a superb game on his debut along with Craig Williams and Simon Doyle.

This week the Glens are at home to Mill Celtic FC from Kildare in the Leinster Senior Cup with a 2 p.m. or 2.30 p.m. kick off, support would be welcome.
