GAA CLUB NOTES
Congratulations to the seniors who won a hard-fought battle against a strong Avondale team on Saturday evening last in Wicklow town, this win guarantees senior championship next season and a match against Eire Óg in the Keating trophy in the coming weeks. Newtown looked to be cruising early in the second half after a great solo effort from young Adam Heffernan, who ran half the length of the pitch to fire home an early goal. Avondale came back strongly to level the match after a penalty but Newtown showed some strong defending to win by a narrowest of margins.
The under-nines are looking forward to their next outing which is on September 22 in Ballinakill and is an All county monster blitz, this is their final blitz of the year.
Training continues every Monday at 6.30 p.m. give Alun a bell at 086 3017500 for more information. Well done to the under-13s who after a marathon league campaign were presented with the league trophy last week despite losing their last game. The lads have got a bye in the first round of the championship and are training away and looking forward to the first championship match which was due to be played last Monday away to Ashford.
Training continues every Monday at 6.30 p.m. for the under-11s and at 6.30 p.m. on Wednesday for the under-13s. The under-15s despite missing a few regulars kicked off their championship with a draw against Aughrim and the next game is away to Annacurra, please check fixtures for confirmation.
All our juvenile teams are always on the lookout for more players and volunteers so if you want to get involved with any aspect with either a boys or girls’ team give our secretary Tom a buzz at 087 6611480. The under-eight_u10 girls are training on Tuesdays at 6.30 p.m.

NEWTOWN JUNIORS FC
Our 12’s and 14’s were not in action last weekend so it was left to all the younger teams to fly the flag across the county. Our under-eights travelled to Greystones to take on the Yellow team and they played some excellent football where David McCormack and Nathan Donohoe were the pick of the players.
The 9’s found the going tough away to Arklow Town White but to be fair they plugged away. Jack Barlow and Lucas Dowdall scored for Newtown.
Our 10’s travelled to Tullylusk to take on Avonmore and both teams served up a fine game in lovely autumn weather. Ryan Collins, William Valentine, Max Roche and Aaron Roy (first ever goal). On the day Nichita Neaga, Kacey Kelly and Pat Carey starred for Newtown.
Our under-11s maintained their 100% start to their Champions League group with a resounding home win over Enniskerry White. Jake Robertson notched his third treble in consecutive games while there were singles for Naoise Lowe, Cathal O’Toole, Dylan Dunleavy, Cormac Chance and Dayle Carthy in what was an excellent team display.
Can we please remind all parents that if they are travelling direct to away venues that there is a couple of important things to remember: (1) make sure you know where the pitch is and (2) arrive at the venue in plenty of time as all players need to warm up prior to the game and its not good enough to arrive at kick off or 15/20 minutes into the game. Also it is helpful to all coaches not only in our club but also across the country that all players/parents inform their child’s coach/s if they can’t make training or matches. Please remember your child has football thanks in the main to the coaches who give up their time voluntarily and contrary to rumours are not on the huge big money contracts our friends in the Pro game receive. Also a thank you after your child’s game to the coach or ask him/her do they need a hand with anything would be very much appreciated.
The following are the fixtures for the weekending Saturday/ Sunday, September 22/23: Academy Team at home to Ark low Tow Black ko to be confirmed; under-eights away to Greystones Red ko to be confirmed; under-nines at home to Arklow Town Red ko to be confirmed; under-10s away to Greystones Yellow ko to be confirmed; under-11s at home to WDSL Academy ko to be confirmed; under-12s away to Ashford Rovers ko to be confirmed; under-14s away to Wicklow Rovers B ko to be confirmed (fixtures and ko times are subject to change)
