Tributes paid to former county registrar who died last week

TRIBUTES were paid to Wicklow’s retired County Registrar Breda Allen who passed away on Friday.

A minutes silence was held in the Council Chamber after Cllr Edward Timmins passed on his commiserat­ions to her family.

Breda, late of Greystones and formerly of Kilcooole, passed away peacefully on Friday after a long illness, surrounded by her family at Earlsbrook House Nursing Home, Bray.

In 2009 Breda retired as the County Registrar in Wicklow having served 13 years in the position.

She also served as the returning officer for elections in the county for the same period.

She worked as a practicing solicitor in Wicklow, based in Kilcoole, before she was appointed as county registrar in 1996.

She was also the former Chair of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre.

Breda was the much loved mother of Susan, Janet, Shane, Derek and Ken, and is dearly missed by her loving partner Vincent and his daughters Sandra, Olive and Audrey.

She will be fondly remembered by her grandchild­ren Alison, Sophie, Alexander, Ethan, Oliver, Matthew, Emily, Cara, Edward and Bridget, siblings Patricia and David, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.

Breda’s funeral mass takes place on Friday at 10 a.m. in St Anthony’s Church, Kilcoole followed by burial in Glasnevin Cemetery.
