A LINE OF O’KANE: Deirdre O’Kane presents her show ‘A Line of O’Kane’ at Mermaid Arts Centre on Saturday, October 6, at 8 p.m. Tickets are €20 or €18 concession and available at mermaidart­scentre. ie. Footloose following a glittering turn on Dancing with the Stars and revelling in her return to standup, don’t miss Deirdre at her hilarious best in a straight-talking look at twelve fantastic months in the life of this tango-tripping, family-minding, telly-making, house-moving comedy dynamo. In the pas year, Deirdre has voiced the hugely successful Gogglebox for TV3, produced Ireland’s largest ever charity show for Comic Relief at the 3Arena, hosted the IFTAs, and starred alongside Debi Mazar and Hillary Duff in Darren Starr’s hit sitcom Younger, which aired in the US in last autumn. A six-time Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTA) nominee, Deirdre was awarded Best Lead Actress (Film) 2015 for her role as Christina Noble opposite Liam Cunningham, Sarah Greene and Brendan Coyle in Stephen Bradley’s feature Noble. Released in September 2014, Noble won Jury and Audience awards at several internatio­nal film festivals. LESLIE AND LUAN: Leslie Dowdall and Luan Parle will perform a double bill at the Hot Spot on Friday, October 5 for a very special night of music. Two of Ireland’s finest females are coming to the Hot Spot to showcase their song writing and performing talents in an intimate setting. Front-woman of legendary Irish band In Tua Nua, Leslie Dowdall’s solo career began in earnest with the release of her first album in 1997, the artfully entitled ‘No Guilt, No Guile’. Meteor and Tatler Award winner Luan Parle’s top 10 hit single ‘Ghost’ spent 3 months in the Irish Charts and was one of the most played songs on radio that year. The singers will perform solo songs and collaborat­e on the night. PADDY GOES TO BOLLYWOOD: The Whale Theatre in Greystones and Indian restaurant Daata have come together for a special ‘Paddy Goes to Bollywood’ night on Thursday, October 4, with a special menua t 7 p.m. and the Dublinshot Bollywood hit Ek Tha Tiger at 9 p.m. in the Whale. Tickets are €30 and available at whaletheat­re.ie. The evening will include a large box of freshly popped popcorn and full bar. KNOCKANANN­A AUCTION: Knockanann­a Hall will host an auction taking place on Sunday, October 7. The event will act as a fundraiser for the Knockanann­a Hall Committee who have worked so hard to ensure the facility remains open. Donations of any saleable items would also be welcome and it’s a great way to recycle any unwanted items. The auction gets underway at 2 p.m. Please contact Patricia O’Keeffe or Monica Canna to arrange pick-ups. RACE NIGHT: A race night will take place in Chester Beatty’s on Friday October 5 instead of the annual Golf Classic held each year for Ashford and Glenealy Parish. The golf classic has taken place for the past 25 years but for this year only it will be replaced by a fun race night which starts at 8 p.m. It will cost €10 to place a bet on a horse or jockey and all the proceeds raised on the night will go toward the maintenanc­e of the Church of the Most Holy Rosary, Ashford and St Joseph’s Church in Glenealy. There has also been a great response locally for sponsorshi­p requests. ROUNDWOOD LIP SYNC: The fundraisin­g Lip Sync Legends for Roundwood AFC takes place on Saturday at Aras an Tochar. Tickets are priced €25 and have been selling out fast. The doors open at 7 p.m. and the various acts start taking to the stage from 8 p.m. Club supporters will be performing as George Michael, Taylor Swift, Shakira, Freddie Mercury, Cher, Snap and even Father Ted and Dougal. There will be 12 acts in all, including a surprise performer. The judging panel with the difficult decision of deciding the winners will be made up of Ciaran Dunne, Karl Broderick, Rob Murray and Tom Brennan. CABARET: A night of traditiona­l cabaret and dancing entertainm­ent takes place in Lawless’s Hotel, Aughrim on Friday, October 5. Featuring on the night will be cabaret favourite RTÉ presenter and showband favourite Ronan Collins as well as vocal duo The Duettes, John Candy - MC and storytelle­r and Theresa and The Stars. Musical director is Ollie Hennessey. Refresheme­nts will be served. This is the first of a series of ‘Wicklow Way’ cabarets to take place at the venue and TR Dallas and Red Hurley will perform in the coming months.
