€36,000 for three local youth groups

BRAY Youth Service, Connect Bray Neighbourhood Youth Service and Bray Sports Promotion Unit have been awarded a total of €37,407 between them in government capital grants.

The grants announced recently will be of huge benefit to young people in Bray, according to Minister Andrew Doyle, who said that they will ‘improve the quality of the services on which local young people rely’.

The grants approved support purchases of equipment and small scale projects, including the upgrade of bathrooms and kitchens in youth services.

Eligible local services were invited by the Education and Training Board (ETB) to apply for support.

‘Investing in and supporting young people is a key priority for this Government,’ said Minister Doyle.

‘ Thanks to our strengthened economy, the government is able to improve supports to the communities who need it most,’ he said.

‘Much of the upgrade works to take place under these grants will be in areas of disadvantage.

‘I’d like to thank the Youth Officer in our local ETB for their work in supporting local youth projects and I know that Minister Zappone has thanked them for their assistance to the Department of Children in the design and implementation of this scheme.

‘ They act as a contact point in their respective localities and play important support role to the providers of youth services here in Wicklow.’

Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Katherine Zappone, said: ‘I am delighted to be in a position to announce these grants. I am confident the grants will assist in improving the quality of the services to the benefit of young people involved.

‘ The provision of these grants underscores the Government’s continued commitment to enhance the quality of services which add such value to our communities. Investing in young people is a key priority for Government. In 2018 we are investing a total of € 61.5m in current and capital funding in clubs, services and supports for young people.’
