MATHS WEEK

Maths Week was celebrated in CCA from the October 15 to October 19 with students involved in lots of number based fun around the school. Problem of the day and the CCA Random Act of maths were just some of the activities that students engaged in, along with a math themed scavenger hunt for First years.

There was also a TY trip to the indoor challenge zone GoQuest, where students were faced with a variety of logical and skill based problems to solve against the clock. Junior Students also took part in math themed orienteering during their PE classes.

Many thanks to all the staff and students who supported these events.

DEBATING

CCA will make its debut appearance in the Concen Debates competition on Tuesday, October 23. CCA will be proposing the motion that ‘Thirty Years on, the world is no closer to ending the global HIV and AIDS epidemic’.

They will be opposed by local neighbours Coláiste Chill Mhantáin. The debate will be held in CCA at 8 p.m. and parents, students, teachers and supporters are all very welcome.

Thanks to Ms Mongey and Mr Hogan for preparing the team. Best of luck to all participants.

‘OF MICE AND MEN’

This year’s CCA Players’ production will be an original stage adaptation of John Steinbeck’s classic Great Depression novella ‘Of Mice and Men’. Auditions were held in October with the cast announced last week. Thanks to everyone who auditioned. The calibre of auditions this year was of a very high standard and made the task of choosing the cast extremely difficult.

This is the CCA Player’s eleventh production which will be staged in the Castle Inn Theatre in early 2019 and will run for three nights. Of Mice and Men is currently a text on the Junior Cert English course so this will be a unique opportunity to see a live production which will be of specific help for students when revising the novella.

Speak to Mr Ó Súilleabháin or Ms Nolan if you wish to pre-book tickets. Tickets will be going on sale from November.

SCHOOL MUSICAL HAIRSRAY

NON-UNIFORM DAY

The Student Council held a non-uniform day on Thursday, October 18, in aid of Goal, to support a humanitarian crisis currently faced by the people of Ethiopia. Since the beginning of this year, over 2.6 million Ethiopians have fled their homes due to violence and draught. Massive displacements are taking place each day and humanitarian response such as Goal desperately need funds to help support people who are without food, clean water and safe shelter.
