St Catherine’s get treats and cheque
CHILDREN from St Catherine’s Association enjoyed two special treats when the Royal Hotel presented them with a wonderful afternoon tea and a cheque for €2,000 for development work at the Haughton House and Brambles respite centres.
Maureen McGettigan O’Connor director of the Royal Hotel said she was delighted to be supporting the Wicklow children’s charity which looks after more than 200 children and young adults with moderate to profound intellectual and physical disabilities.
‘ The Royal Hotel is passionate about supporting local organisation’s like St Catherine’s because we have been an important part of the Wicklow community for many years and appreciate the wonderful work St Catherine’s is doing,’ said Maureen.
St Catherine’s provide respite, short break and residential care, early services, psychology, physio, occupational, behaviour support and speech therapies. They are also the Patron of St. Catherine’s Special School.
‘We are proud to help St Catherine’s develop and grow their facilities and support for these vulnerable children,’ Ms McGettigan O’Connor explained. ‘I understand the complex care these children need as I have a close family member who works in this challenging area.’
Ms Kalinda Healy, Head of Res- pite and Short Breaks at St Catherine’s said without the generosity of companies like The Royal Hotel it would be impossible to make the improvements we need to make to ensure we continue to provide the range and quality of services the children and their families need.
‘ This donation will go towards the renovation of two of our respite centres and the building of a new indoor activity room for children in respite care who need a space to relax and play during all weather. Some of the children do not sleep well at night and need a place they can be safe, warm and engage in activities that calm them.
‘We are very grateful to the Royal Hotel for their interest in and support of our work.’
