Draft budget agreed at the district level
Members of Greystones Municipal District last week approved a draft budgetary plan of €36,000, a portion of their discretionary spend for the year.
The plan includes a number of discretionary items, for example twinning, festivals and tourism, and feeds into the annual budget of Wicklow County Council.
This is a portion of an expenditure in the district of approximately €2.5 million. The legislation requires approval for the sum at district level.
‘We have been here before,’ said District Administrator Myra Porter. There were no real changes since the previous year’s figures.
She said that this budget does not include public realm funding on which members will decide later.
Members sought clarification on why the figure for tourism had increased by €10,000.
‘I never see the point of moving these figures around the place, it’s a waste of time,’ said Cllr Grainne McLoughlin, while Cllr Tom Fortune said that it is ‘petty cash’.
