Pete the Vet’s blog picks up three awards
Bray vet, and columnist for this newspaper, Pete Wedderburn, has swept the boards at the 2018 Blog Awards Ireland.
The blog ‘Pete The Vet won first prize in the ‘Science and Education (Business)’ category, ‘Lifestyle (Business), and ‘Blog of the Year’.
Pete said that his blog has been a labour of love since he started writing about it over a decade ago.
‘My mission in life is to spread good quality information about animals and pet care, and my own blog has been at the epicentre of my efforts,’ he said.
Pete said that it was a huge surprise to hit the big time at the national blog awards, now in its seventh year.
His was one of 1,200 entrants, and 300 finalists.
The judging included three rounds; the first two of which were judged by peers and the final round was judged by media/journalism and PR profes- sionals.
Pete was represented at the awards by his daughter Ella and her friend, as he was on a trip which included visiting the UK’s biggest cat rescue centre. ‘I kept in touch by WhatsApp as I travelled home!’ He managed to get from the airport to the ceremony in time to find out the extent of the blog’s success, and to get in to an official photograph.
‘I was almost overwhelmed with delight and surprise. For a blog, accolades and awards really can’t get any higher,’ said Pete.
‘ Thank you so much to everyone who helped, from my website designers to those of you out there who read my blog and give me helpful feedback. And particular thanks are due to my assistant, Jen, who calmly and efficiently helps to manage blog postings behind the scenes,’ said Pete.
‘It’s a great honour to achieve recognition like this, and it’s all the more thrilling because it was so unexpected.’
