Wicklow Gaol on mission ‘down under’
WICKLOW Gaol was among a delegation of eleven Irish tourism companies taking part in Tourism Ireland’s sales mission to Australia and New Zealand.
The companies from Ireland – including hotels, visitor attractions and destination management companies – met with and concluded deals with around 500 Australian and New Zealand tour operators and travel agents, in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Auckland. They will also brief local travel editors and bloggers, highlighting why Ireland is such a great choice for holidaymakers. The busy programme includes workshops, presentations, sales calls and networking events.
The island of Ireland has seen good growth in visitor numbers from Australia and New Zealand over the past few years, with a record 228,000 people visiting in 2017. Wicklow Gaol also has Australian connections, with many convicts imprisoned during the 18th Century ending up being transported to Australia.
