Wick­low Gaol on mis­sion ‘down un­der’

WICK­LOW Gaol was among a del­e­ga­tion of eleven Ir­ish tourism com­pa­nies tak­ing part in Tourism Ire­land’s sales mis­sion to Aus­tralia and New Zealand.

The com­pa­nies from Ire­land – in­clud­ing ho­tels, vis­i­tor at­trac­tions and des­ti­na­tion man­age­ment com­pa­nies – met with and con­cluded deals with around 500 Aus­tralian and New Zealand tour op­er­a­tors and travel agents, in Bris­bane, Mel­bourne, Syd­ney and Auck­land. They will also brief lo­cal travel edi­tors and blog­gers, high­light­ing why Ire­land is such a great choice for hol­i­day­mak­ers. The busy pro­gramme in­cludes work­shops, pre­sen­ta­tions, sales calls and net­work­ing events.

The is­land of Ire­land has seen good growth in vis­i­tor num­bers from Aus­tralia and New Zealand over the past few years, with a record 228,000 peo­ple vis­it­ing in 2017. Wick­low Gaol also has Aus­tralian con­nec­tions, with many con­victs im­pris­oned dur­ing the 18th Cen­tury end­ing up be­ing trans­ported to Aus­tralia.
