Sunshine and superb skills
Football Participation Day
LAST week was the turn of the fifth and sixth class girls to take part in their own Football Participation Day. There was an incredible turnout in Bray Emmets GAA Club and a fantastic atmosphere all around. In all no fewer than 20 teams took part on the day when the sun shone down on the wonderful skills on show.
Huge thanks were offered to Bray Emmets for hosting the event and in particular Dave Barry and Micheál Ó Murchú for setting up the pitches. Thanks were also offered to all those who refereed games.
The schools that took part on the day were: Ashford NS, St Patrick’s NS Curtlestown, St Fergal’s NS Bray, St Peter’s NS Bray, Greystones Educate Together NS, Wicklow Educate Together NS, Scoil Chualann, Gaelscoil Chill Mhantáin, Gaelscoil Uí Chéadaigh, Gaelscoil na gCloch Liath, St Laurence’s NS, Moneystown NS and Newtownmountkennedy NS.
Super Turnout at the Allianz fifth and sixth class boys football participation day - The last outdoor outing in Term 1 of the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol in North/East Wicklow concluded on Wednesday, October 24, with the fifth and sixth class boys’ participation blitz which was again held in Bray Emmets GAA Grounds with over 320 boys/32 teams enjoying Gaelic football.
A lovely autumnal morning brought together 32 enthusiastic teams to participate in the last of our ‘participation’ blitzes. A mixture of novice and experienced players made for good football culminating in some well-worked team scores.
This ‘points only’ tournament encouraged the children to improve on their point scoring via the foot or fist.
A special word of ‘thanks’ goes to Dave Barry and Liam McGraynor (Bray Emmets) and Michael Ó Murchú (Kilcoole) who have consistently allowed us access to their facilities and who have organised the grounds to have the appropriate number of pitches ready for use. Without their help, organisation and co-ordination the children would lose out on valuable playing time.
Finally, to the teachers/coaches, parents, but especially the children, who attended Wednesday’s blitz, a very hearty ‘Maith Sibh’, for an excellent display of sportsmanship and skill.
The 32 participating teams were from the following schools: St. Laurence’s Greystones (3 teams), Kilmacanogue (2), St. Patrick’s Wicklow Town (2), St.Peter’s Bray (1), Ashford (3), Gaelscoil Uí Cheadaigh Brí Chulann (1), Moneystown (1), Newtown (1), St. Brigid’s Greystones(1), Kilcoole (1), Scoil Chulann Brí Chulann (1), Gaelscoil Chill Mhantáin (2), Gaelscoil na gClocha LIath (3), St. Fergal’s Bray (2), Greystones Educate Together (3), Wicklow Educate Together (1), St. Patrick’s Curtlestown (1), Ravenswell NS Bray (1), St. Cronan’s (2).
