Worship Service for this Sunday – the third Sunday before Advent: 8.30 a.m. – Holy Communion; 11 a.m. – Morning Prayer (Rite 1) with Act of remembrance at which Dr Mathew McCauley and Mr Peter Harty will preach at our Remembrance Day Service. Mathew’s ongoing experience as a psychologist in the Medical Corps of the Irish, British and US forces gives gravitas to his words and his innate wisdom. Peter Harty has vast experience through his distinguished career in the Military world. The service will be followed afterwards by coffee in the Erck Hall; 7 p.m. – Holy Communion, Lector Vicky O’Brien.
Confirmation 2019: His Grace the Archbishop of Dublin, The Most Revd. Dr Michael Jackson, will confirm young people from this parish, along with candidates from Crinken, Bray and Kilternan parishes, on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at 3 p.m. in Christ Church, Bray. Kilternan and Rathmichael will work together in the matter of preparation of the candidates. Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmation certificates or application forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificates and application forms can be processed.
Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday,(except during July, August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confessions are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannesparishshankill.com and then clicking onto video link.
Bethany Bereavement Group: Operates Drop-In Centre in St Anne’s Resource Centre on the first Friday of each month at 10.30 a.m. The Bethany Bereavement Support Group is a voluntary ministry. The volunteers are trained to listen and to help the bereaved and grieving.
Bethany Bereavement National Bereavement Support for Adults: A five-week Bethany Bereavement Support Group programme will take place in St Anne’s Resource Centre, Shankill, from 8 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. on the following dates in 2019 – Monday, January 14, Monday, January 21, Monday, January 28, Monday, February 4, and Monday, February 11, If you are feeling the pain of any loss at all, this series of meetings may offer support and consolation in a place where healing can begin. This is a completely free service provided by trained volunteers in the community. The Bethany Bereavement Group is a voluntary parish-based ministry who are trained to listen and to help the bereaved and anyone grieving any loss.

Hospitality Sunday: The Hospitality Team would like to invite you to come to St Anne’s Resource Centre this Sunday after the 10.30 a.m. Family Mass, for tea or coffee. JPII Youth, Shankill: This group is aimed at people aged 13 to 18, who wish to meet new people, have fun and learn more about their faith. The next meeting takes place on Saturday, November 17, from 7.30 p.m. from 9 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Garda vetted adult supervisors will be present for each meeting. We are seeking more adult volunteers who would be willing to supervise the group, one evening per month – please contact St Anne’s Resource Centre.
Christmas Fair: The Parish Christmas Fair will take place on Sunday, December 2, in St Anne’s Resource and is the principal annual parish fundraising activity. Sponsors are sought for the raffle and spot prizes. If you can assist us in any way, please contact Martin Walsh or Pat Maguire through St Anne’s Resource Centre. Last Monday a planning meeting was held at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. All ticket sellers and stall holders were asked to attend.
St Anne’s Parish Pastoral Council: The PPC met last Monday night in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Suggestions welcome – these can be placed in the box in the church or handed into the parish office.
St Anne’s Memorial Tree: During the month of November we will have a Memorial Tree at the side of the Altar. There are leaves that will be placed in baskets around the church if you would like a deceased loved one prayed for during this month. Please write their name on a leaf and hang it on the tree.
Confirmation Class Retreat: The Retreats for this year’s Confirmation Classes will take place at the Daughters of charity, Templehill, Blackrock, next Tuesday and, next Wednesday for St Anne’s and Rathmichael and next Thursday for Scoil Mhuire.
St Anne’s Shankill Parish Assembly: Takes place next Wednesday, the feast of St Laurence O’Toole, at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Church. Together let us begin to set out a realistic agenda for renewal of the church in the years to come – Why are we no longer captivating so many of our people for the message of Jesus Christ?; Which models of pastoral activity and reflection are most likely to win the hearts of young people for the message of Jesus?; How do we teach young people about prayer?; How can our parish respond to these challenges?; Which aspects of our dominant culture make it harder for people to understand the message of Jesus?. In virtue of our baptism we are all church. Please show your love for our common family by participating in the assembly.

Remembering a loved one: Apostolic Work provides Mass kits to priests in poor parishes in developing countries. Each Mass kit can be dedicated to the memory of a loved one with an engraving on the chalice, so they are continually remembered in Mass.
A donation of €350 will cover the cost of a complete Mass kit and a simple inscription. The kit includes vestments, altar linens, chalice and ciborium in a light metal box for travel. If you would like to consider subscribing for a Mass kit or helping with a donation of any sort or becoming a sewing member please contact the parish office or Kathie Davey (2823014) for more information.

BOOK SALE
Last Saturday morning there was a very large attendance at the November First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Association, which took place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Shankill Old Folks Association, Lower Road, Shankill, as which there was excellent selection of books and DVDs on offer.
The December First Saturday Book Sale takes place in this location between the same times on Saturday, December 1, so make a point of calling into it during that Saturday morning and avail of the opportunity to pick up some excellent reading material for over the Christmas/New Year period.
Donations of books, which must be in a good and clean condition, other than school/text books, will be accepted on that day. Photographs and memorial cards found in donated books can be collected at the book sale. Supporting the First Saturday Book Sale supports the Shankill Community.
HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Tonight (Wednesday) Howard Clarke will be the guest speaker for the November meeting of the Rathmichael Historical Society, the local history society for Shankill, Ballybrack, and the surrounding area, at which he will present his lecture ‘Did Brian Boru save Ireland from a Viking Conquest?’ at 8 p.m. in Rathmichael National School, Stonebridge Road, Shankill, and all are welcome to attend – admission €4.
Other events which may be of interest to members and supporters of the Rathmichael Historical Society are tomorrow’s (Thursday) 8 p.m. lecture by Ruth Ferguson on ‘The original Houses of Belfield’ to the Mount Merrion Historical Society in the community centre, North Avenue, Mount Merrion, Co. Members of the Rathmichael Historical Society are also reminded that the Old Bray Society has published a special issue of the Bray Historical Record – ‘First World War Special Issue’ which recalls those from county Wicklow, who took part in this conflict. Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays – The library will be closed this Friday but open on Saturday. SHANKILL GAA CLUB
The juvenile academy was back in action last Saturday at 10 a.m. in our winter quarters of St Laurence College. Please come along and give the Academy a try. The cost is only €2 per child each week and there is no annual subscription. All equipment is provided free and qualified coaches are always in attendance, it’s all about having fun with your friends.
Our AGM will be held on Monday, November 19, at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Recourse centre Shankill. Nominations for committee and notice of motions must be with the club secretary ASAP.
There was no draw last week as Bray Lakers were using the pub for a fundraiser. In last Sunday week’s ‘Chase the Ace’ draw in Brady’s there was no jackpot winner – the €50 prize went to Derek Byrne. This week’s jackpot is €1,350. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5 available in the pub or from club members.

Tonight (Wednesday) a public meeting of the Shankill, Loughlinstown and Ballybrack Local Policing Forum will take place at 7 p.m. in Shanganagh Park House, Shankill.
