‘The State ought to buy Luggala’
The historic Luggala estate should be bought by the State according to local TD Pat Casey.
In light of reports that the State has been in contact with the agents responsible for the sale of the iconic Luggala estate Deputy Casey called on the Irish Government to see the bigger picture and purchase the lands for the benefit of the Irish nation.
‘For years the Guinness family have provided the people of Ireland with exceptional access to the spectacular lands around their estate in Luggala.
‘ The high price tag of €28 million should be seen in the context of the unique opportunity that the house and the estate lands present. The purchase of these lands by the State would result in this stunning landscape being preserved and allowing access to the thousands of Irish and International visitors.
‘Having been involved in the tourism business all my life I am convinced that the taxpayers of Ireland would make their money back on this investment with the tourist potential of the Luggala lands. The cultural and environmental potential of these lands would also be preserved and protected for future generations. I am calling on the State to purchase these lands and invest in protecting our landscape and heritage for all the people of Ireland. These lands are priceless when it comes to the bigger picture of Ireland’s spectacular heritage.’
