One year on
blessed with the weather, they’re playing on decent pitches and it’s been an enjoyable competition. It was put in there and it’s something that we could tick a box with, but it ticked a box better than anything because we have guys playing now, it gives them an opportunity to be seen for selection for the (Wicklow) under-20 team next year FIXTURES
‘Considerable progress in delivery of the Strategic Actions for fixtures has been achieved’.
1. The Masters Fixtures Plan as adopted was generally adhered to.
2. This action will be dealt with at Convention 2018.
3. This will be reviewed.
4. Across both adult and juvenile games (outside of the cup competitions) greater certainty on fixtures and availability of county players is an outcome to be welcomed.
A full County Board fixtures review meeting for 2019 was held on November 6. The meeting was very well attended. Iar Uachtarán Liam O’Neill chaired proceedings and valuable feedback for Fixtures 2019 was received.
The Under 20 Club Competition has commenced.
Clearly defined Programme of Games and Training is in place for Academy Squads. More certainty for Hurling Squads required.
Wicklow clubs participated in Spring Cross County Leagues in hurling and football.
5. Coaching and Games has a process in place to recruit young whistlers and provide them with the necessary skills set to become official referees.
6. There is ongoing discussion on an integrated games programme with Cumann na mBuscoil and Post – Primary Schools Committees.
1. The Internal Financial Review (Leinster Council) has been undertaken of Wicklow GAA’s financial controls. The outcomes are to provide the detail for the Production of an Annual Operations Plan. A template for such a plan is awaited.
2. The recruitment process for appointment of a New Operations Manager is deferred pending the completion of the implementation phase of the Strategic Review.
3. An appointee with responsibility of chairing and overseeing development and implementation of the Five Year Strategic Plan has been identified.
4. This will in turn facilitate the setting up of Four Local Areas Development Regions (LADR). The work of these committees will focus on Planning, Shared Learning and Problem Solving for clubs. The hope is that new people will emerge to lead this element of the Review.
5. New Disciplinary Code for competitions adopted.
6. The Games Development Section was reorganised to account for changes to Fixtures and refereeing.
7. Currently liaising with Leinster Council to identify the Third Party experts to enhance Planning, Leadership and Management capacity in the county.
8. This meeting is to provide progress reports on very important elements of the Wicklow Review. The Review sets out a requirement for four such meetings per annum. I would welcome suggestions for agenda items for such meetings or will the scheduled meetings of the Coiste Chondae suffice?
9. When the Annual County Operation Plan is completed there will be a review of the roles and responsibilities of County Sub-Committees. This is to ensure that County Sub-Committees work is aligned to the Operations Plan.
