Dunlavin side claim ‘A’ honours in first year football
FIRST YEAR GIRLS
EIGHT teams had qualified for the finals of the first year girls football championship in Ballinakill last week.
Scoil Chonglais Baltinglass, Colaiste Bhride Carnew, St Kevin’s CC Dunlavin and Blessington CC qualified in the ‘A’ championship and St Kevins B, Colaiste Bhride B, Dominican College and Gaelcholaiste na Mara in the ‘B’ championship.
The day on Thursday was fine and dry with all teams showing good footballing skills.
The referees that officiated on the day were Cathy Forde, Terry Canavan, Eddie Leonard and Mick Owens.
In the ‘A’ championship, St Kevin’s Dunlavin and Coláiste Bhríde Carnew qualified for the final.
Victory here went to the Dunlavin school on a 1-7 to 1-0 scoreline and the captain Katy Halpin was presented with the trophy.
In the ‘B’ championship, Coláiste Bhríde and Gaelcholáiste na Mara proved strongest with the Carnew school taking the title.
Jim Murphy presented the trophy to the winning captain Ciara Weafer.
LEINSTER ‘D’ QUALIFIER
Scoil Chonglais Baltinglass finished their section with a good win over Colaiste Chraobh Abhann Kilcoole to qualify for the final of the boys Junior Leinster ‘D’ football championship qualifier.
In the other section, Coláiste Chill Mhantain had a good win over Gaelcholáiste na Mara to also qualify for the final.
GIRLS SENIOR ‘B’ LEAGUE
St David’s Greystones scored a 6-19 to 1-4 win over Coláiste Chill Mhantain and will next meet Avondale CC to see who tops the group.
FIRST YEARS BOYS
St Kevin’s CC Dunlavin looked like a very promising side as they comprehensively defeated Scoil Chonglais Baltinglass.
