Soccer action

-

Most of the teams have now finished for the winter break and received their awards and medals on Sunday in the Parkview Hotel in Newtown but two teams were in action last weekend.

The under-14s qualified for the Premier Shield Final and they faced a very strong Rathnew team who have won every game this season so the task was always going to be tough. A bad start saw the Glens trail 4-0 at the break and two more goals were conceded after the break but this defeat in no way deflects from how well this young team have done under manager Karl Bradshaw this year and everyone at Glencormac United FC are really proud of their efforts.

The senior team travelled to Arklow to play Arklow United on Sunday morning. Somehow, after dominating the first half, the Glens trailed 2-0 at the break. However, they managed to score three times after the restart with Josh O’Callaghan netting along with two from Nay Watters only for Arklow to equalise in the last minute and it finished 3-3. The Glens will rue all the missed chances they had but move on to St Peter’s at home this Sunday at 2 p.m., support welcome.

A minute’s silence was observed before the game in memory of Kathleen Bradshaw. Kathleen was a great supporter of the Glens and all at the club is so very sorry to hear of her passing and extend their deepest sympathies to all her family at this sad time. Rest in Peace Kathleen, a truly lovely lady.
