Water carriers reduced

-

A query relating to the reduction of water carriers during games to two per team was put to the top table at the County Board meeting in Ballinakill on Monday night.

A Valleymount delegate questioned how reducing the number to two was going to work for the season ahead.

‘It’s as per the county, the change came from Croke Park, it’s as per rule,’ said county secretary Chris O’Connor.

‘But, if you’re a water carrier on one side of the field you can only go from the 21 to the 65,’ said the Valleymount delegate.

‘That’s exactly the same way as it is in county. We’ll do what we did last year if we get the hot weather again, we’ll increase it to four for various matches, but it is two per official rule,’ said O’Connor.

‘I don’t think that if it was really hot weather that if you had more than two water carriers, you’d get a fine. Within reason, obviously,’ added County Chairman Martin Fitzgerald.
