TWO of Wicklow’s most popular tourist destinations received Merit Awards at the CIE Tours International Annual Awards of Excellence which took place in Dublin’s City Hall.

Russborough House and Glendalough Visitors Centre were both presented with awards, which are now in their 29th year and recognise the best hotels and attractions across Ireland and are based on feedback from over 32,000 customers during the year.

Russborough was built between 1741-1750 and is regarded as one of Ireland’s most beautiful houses. It has magnificent views of the Blessington Lakes and Wicklow Mountains. This year Russborough will be exhibiting a significant body of works from the Milltown Collection alongside the Beit Collection.

The Glendalough Visitors Centre brings visitors back in time to the golden age of Irish history. The audio-visual show is available in many languages as well as guided tours of the permanent exhibition. Courses and tours for schoolchildren, students and groups are also provided.

The honours were presented by Vivienne Jupp, chairman, and Elizabeth Crabill, chief executive officer of CIE Tours International. In total 77 hotels and tourist attractions won awards and winning destinations each achieved a customer satisfaction rating of over 92 per cent from CIE Tours International visitors, delivering an exceptional quality experience and welcome to tourists.
