RANDOLPH IS MADE A ROVER FOR LIFE

- BY MARY FOGARTY

SUPERSTAR goalie Darren Randolph paid a visit to his old club, Ardmore Rovers, last Sunday morning at St Kilian’s sports grounds.

Chairman Grant Walker presented the Bray man with an Ardmore jersey, acknowledging his continuing support of the club.

The Irish international and Middlesborough FC footballer spent a lot of time with the young people, signing jerseys, gloves and other memorabilia, and having pictures taken. He spoke to the children, inspiring them to train hard and enjoy sport.

Darren was honoured with a lifetime membership of Ardmore Rovers and made their ambassador for Ardmore2020, by members of the Ardmore Rovers Executive committee, Grant Walker (Chairperson), Ciaran O’Connor( Vice Chair), Albert Stevens (Treasurer) and Ian Wheeler (Head Coach).

All of the children are hoping to follow in Darren’s footsteps. Meanwhile, Ardmore Rovers continues to campaign and fundraise for a home of its own. Hundreds of boys and girls of all ages train with the club weekly, using a range of facilities all over the town.

As the club approaches its 40th anniversary, it is still without a permanent home, a scenario that is often met with frustration and disbelief by club officials.

According to the club’s Chairman Grant Walker, the club’s position is constantly in flux. ‘We simply can’t plan for the future. We are one of the biggest clubs in the Dublin and District Schoolboy’s League.’
