Coláiste Bhríde set for semi-final clash with Cashel

-

LEINSTER champions Coláiste Bhrde Carnew will take on Cashel Community School on Monday afternoon next in Carnew at noon in the All-Ireland Junior ‘C’ camogie semi-final.

The Carnew students saw off Coláiste Mhuire of Johnstown in Kilkenny in their Leinster decider by 1-6 to 0-1 after a superb performance from Bob Fitzgerald’s side but they will know that they are going into this last-four competition as underdogs and, perhaps, they would like it no other way.

There are some injury concerns for the Coláiste Bhríde side which has hampered preparations slightly, but if they can gel and play for each other in the manner they did down in Kilkenny then victory would not be beyond them.

Home support next Monday afternoon would also give the Wicklow school’s side a major lift.

Their opponents are some- thing of a mystery other than the fact that the school have won Munster titles at Senior and Junior level this year, suggesting that camogie is taken very seriously down there.

‘We are probably massive underdogs,’ said Coláiste Bhríde manager Bob Fitzgerald.

‘We have an extremely young team here, the team is backboned with a huge amount of under-14s who can play at this age for another two campaigns,’ he added.

‘We are going into the game on Monday with an open mind. These are a resilient group of girls who won’t give up easily and show great pride in themselves as a group for the six clubs and two counties represented, as was clearly evident in the Leinster final where the greatest display of stubbornness ever was seen from a camogie team.

‘Regardless of what happens on Monday, Coláiste Bhríde has made great strides this year and please God it can be built on in the future,’ he added.
