CONGRATULATIONS

Two sisters from Newtownmountkennedy have been announced as ‘Ireland’s Greatest Friendship’ following a nationwide photography competition run by Fisherman’s Friend Ireland and the Irish Farmer’s Journal.

The photo of sister Anna (3) and Neala Duffy (4) was taken by their mother, Claire Duffy and captured the essence of their sisterly bond, securing them the top place out of 10 finalists.

Following a nationwide search by Fisherman’s Friend for Ireland’s Greatest Friendship, individuals from across Ireland were encouraged to share photos that captured their friendships and provide a short description of what their relationship means to them.

Out of hundreds of entries, Claire’s photo was selected as the winner after her entry captured the hearts of the judges. Congratulations to Claire Anna and Neala.

The village of Newtown and surrounding areas were shocked to learn of the passing of Peter ‘Padge’ Farrell last week. Peter was a valued player on teams in our club in the late eighties/early nineties. To his mother Denise, father Eamonn, siblings Paudie and Niamh, his grandfather Jimmy, his extended family and his large circle of friends, our club would like to offer our deepest condolences at this sad time. The regard that many people held Padge in was evident by the huge turnout at his funeral Mass. May he rest in peace.
