Dunne strikes late to earn St. Patrick’s a draw

-

A late goal from Jack Dunne earned a share of the spoils for St Patrick’s in their Division 3 clash with Blessington in Blessington last weekend.

The visitors had led at the break but had fallen behind thanks to a much-improved performance from the home side in the second half and they led by three as the final whistle approached.

However, Dunne spoiled the Blessington party when he finished to the back of the net to send the Dunbur Park men back over the mountains with a point in their back pockets.

The draw didn’t come totally free of costs. St Pat’s’ James Kavanagh will miss the foreseeable future after breaking his collar bone. Speedy recovery, James.

Scorers - St Pat’s: Conor O’Brien 2-1, Jack Dunne 1-0, Jordan Pettigrew 0-4, James Kavanagh 0-3.

Blessington: Sean Mescal 1-4, Kieran Mcgovern 0-3, Adam Murphy 1-0, Eoin Higgins 0-2, Michael Nugent 0-1, Ciaran Mescal 0-1.

Avoca welcomed Lacken-Kilbride to Rooster Park for what turned out to be a very entertaining game of football last weekend.

In the end it was the blackand amber side who clinched their second league win of the season thanks to the six-point winning margin when the final whistle sounded.

The first half ended with Avoca leading by 1-6 to 0-5 after Dean Power scored a cracking goal to finish off an excellent move created by Dale Fluskey.

Avoca’s PJ Fluskey kept the scoreboard ticking over with three points in the first half.

The second half saw Avoca go six points up only to see Lacken-Kilbride claw their way back into the game with four points in the space of five minutes to close to within two of the home side.

However, a goal by Robbie Warde and a few late points by PJ Fluskey and Andy Doyle saw Avoca home by six points in the end.

Avoca scorers: Dean Power 1-3, PJ Fluskey 0-4, Robbie Warde 1-0, Andy Doyle 0-2, Dale Fluskey 0-2, Darren Keogh 0-1.

There was only going to one winner of this clash from early on as the home side ran riot over struggling Hollywood in this Division 3 clash in Kilgarron on Sunday morning.

Leading by 1-12 to 0-5 at the break, the Enniskerry men powered home to see off the west outfit by 3-21 to 0-8 to leave them in fourth spot in the table.

Hollywood will hope for a quick recovery as they now find themselves just one place off the bottom above winless Lacken-Kilbride. However, they will get nothing easy in their next encounter when they welcome Ashford to Kilbride on April 20 at 5pm.

Enniskerry must travel to Aughrim on the same date and at the same time for their next Division 3 encounter. The Granite City men lost out narrowly to Shilellagh/ Coolboy in a decent tussle in Shillelagh last weekend and will be hoping to bounce back. This game has the potential to be a cracker.

Scorers – Enniskerry: Brendan Barton 2-2, Gavin Barton 0-7, Colm Nolan 1-3, Owen Corrigan 0-2, Rhys Copeland 0-1, Dan Kelly 0-1, Craig Williams 0-1, Stephen Cahill 0-1, James Hanaway 0-1, Luke Dalton 0-1, Luke Wrynn 0-1.

Hollywood: Kevin Glennon 1-1, James Mooney 0-2, Liam Callanan 0-2, Colin Tutty 0-1, Ryan Mulvery 0-1, Jack Cullen 0-1.

Tinahely’s superb form continued in a big way in Greystones last Friday night when they made the long journey to the north Wicklow venue and came home with the points thanks to a 6-21 to 2-14 victory on a bad night for football.

A David Dillon goal pushed the visitors ahead after 20 minutes at 1-3 to 0-5 after the home side enjoyed a very healthy start.

However, Tinahely’s ability to pounce for majors saw them lead by 3-3 to 1-7 at the break with the game totally up for grabs at that stage.

A strong showing from David Blake at full-forward paved the way for a dominant second-half performance with the visitors running out comfortable winners in the end.

Tinahely, currently on top of Division 3 with a rapidly growing score difference, will travel for a testing game against Avoca next in Rooster Park on April 20 while Éire Óg must head west to Blessington for what will most certainly be a difficult fixture for the Greystones men.

The unavailability of players is believed to be the reason why Knockananna were forced to concede a walkover to Ashford ahead of their Division 3 clash last weekend.

Knockananna’s difficulties in terms of playing numbers is widely known but hopefully they will bounce back and welcome Shillelagh/Coolboy for their next scheduled fixture on April 20.
