ÉIRE ÓG GREYSTONES

PEIL: It was truly a skin-of-the-teeth affair which drew as much on our Senior team’s nervous energy as it did on its physical.

One is speaking of the Éire Óg’s 1 point victory, 1-16 to 1-15, over Avondale on Sunday morning in the Div.1A League.

B’fhiú an tairbhe an trioblóid (it was worth it all) as it means that the team has now registered three wins out of four in the league.

Our Junior ‘C’ team was not as fortunate on Friday night. It suffered a ‘no-disputing’ defeat at home at the hands of Tinahely.

PEIL NA GCAILÍNÍ: Our under-14 girls played host to Valleymount in the league on Tuesday evening.

Éire Óg won on the mind-boggling score of 13-2 to 8-7 (half-time 6-2 to 2-5).

A thoroughly enjoyable and exciting end to end game which remained very much in the melting pot until Jane Merren put the result beyond doubt with a late 2 goal salvo.

Scorers: Aisling Roche (5-1), Jane Merren (5-0), Abby Smullen (3-0), Sophie King (0-1).

The under-12 cailíní travelled to Kilcoole ro play the locals in a friendly at the weekend.

Kilcoole competes in a higher league than ár gcailíní so the Éire Óg girls took great satisfaction from the fact that they lost by just four points.

The team’s mentors were delighted at the girls’ performance which demonstrated a significant improvement in their skill levels and which showed that they are beginning to develop a game sense.

In contrast to their recent outings the squad had on this occasion only nine subs!

CAMÓGAÍOCHT: Our camógs have not been idle at either Senior or juvenile level.

On Saturday afternoon they welcomed to Greystones Naomh Éanna from Antrim and on Tuesday played a friendly against a team from Cuala.

Cuala is a club which has developed a reputation in iomáint and as a follow-on in camógaíocht.

The Éire Óg ladies were far from being out of their depth and very much held their own.

The score on the club’s Twitter read 5-4 to 2-4 but it was not at all clear from the tweet which team had scored the 5-4!

It was great to hear that our under-14 camógs had participated in the recent Féile blitz and that they had performed creditably against two well established teams.

IOMÁINT: The Northern Gaels, a team comprising mainly players from Éire Óg and Kilcoole, has qualified to participate in the Hurling Féile which will be taking place in Cork in June. Maith sibh, a bhuachaillí!

EASTER CAMP: Both hurling and football for 8-13-year-olds, boys and girls, is being run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. from April 15 to 18 inclusive in the club grounds.

The cost is €50 and places are limited. Contact Billy 086-3739391.

COMHGÁIRDEACHAS to Craig Smullen on his marriage on Friday to Cáit Ní Réamainn.

Beannacht Dé orthu beirt agus go raibh saol fada sonasach acu le chéile.

UPCOMING FIXTURES: Our Senior hurlers play Bray Emmets in the first round of the Lightning Protection Championship next Sunday 14th at 11.30 a.m. in Pearse’s Park.

Our Division 3 footballers are away to Blessington on 19th at 5 p.m. and our Seniors are at home to Annacurra at 11a.m. on Sunday 21st.

COOLKENNO

Peil Idirmheánach: Our Intermediates snatched an away draw versus Ballymanus on Sunday morning moving them on to three points after three games in Roinn II de Shraith II.

Trailing by six points at the break (2-6 to 0-6), Coolkenno stormed back in the second half with Don Jackman hitting a hat-trick of goals, one of which came from the spot after James Gregan was hauled down in the square after a lay-off from Cormac Byrne.

Indeed, it was Jackman who was fouled with time almost up giving Conor Walker the chance to tie the game, which he did with aplomb. Scór Deiridh: Baile Mháinis 2-12, Cúil Uí Chionaoith 3-9.

That result sees us just one point adrift of leaders Valleymount in what is a tightly contested Roinn II thus far.

PEIL NA nÓg: Maith sibh to all our under-9s who took part in the Go-Games blitz at the weekend in Tinahely.

Next Saturday, all roads lead to Croker for our under-8s as they get their first chance to play on the hallowed turf. A big day in store for our budding young stars who’ll be taking on Duffry Rovers of Loch Garman, club of legendary cúl báire David Fitzhenry. Bainigí taitneamh as! Enjoy it!

AN RÁS MÓR: Our annual 5k and 10k challenge is now less than a week away. Come and join us in Coolkenno Community Field this Sunday April 14.

Registration is at 10am. Race commences at 11am. To aid with administration on the day, please pre-register on-line at justrunevents.com.

Go n-éirí an t-ádh le gach duine atá ag glacadh páirte ann!

PEIL NA MBAN: Maith thú to Eimear Murphy who was part of the victorious Wicklow under--14 team who beat Offaly on Saturday to book a place in the Leinster final. Imreoir iontach is ea Eimear!

The u-12 girls kicked off their campaign on Monday night last versus Ashford and came out winners on a 1-7 to 0-5 scoreline. Great start to the year.

Lastly, a different code, but go n-éirí an t-ádh leis na cailíní ó Bhaile Uí Chonaill who will take part in the Carlow County Finals of the FAI Primary Schools five-aside this coming week.

ST PATRICK’S

Well done to Eoin Lawlor, one of our under-13s who won the County Cumann na mbunscoil skills competition in Ballinakill on Wednesday.

Eoin will get to play in Croke Park on All-Ireland semi-final day later in the summer.

Many thanks to Mr Cuddihy and Peadar DeHora for all the encouragement and coaching to all our players at St. Pats NS.

Hard luck to all involved with our brilliant Wicklow ladies team who were unable to secure a semi-final berth with Sunday’s loss to Longford but what a campaign it has been to only be denied a semi-final spot by a single point in the table in their first year promoted to Division 3.

Everyone in St Pats wishes county captain Niamh McGettigan a speedy recovery from what looked like a fairly nasty injury.

Well done to Megan Dunne who started Sunday’s game in goal for her National League debut.

Well done to all the St Pats representatives on an excellent league campaign: Captain Niamh McGettigan Sarah Delahunt, Clodagh Fox, Kate Hennessy, Saoirse O’Reilly, Megan Dunne and Erynn O’Brien

On Sunday morning St Patrick’s, county Senior football champions, welcomed the county Intermediate champions to Dunbur for their Division 1 clash. Half time: St Patrick’s 0-9, Tinahely 1-2. Full-time: St. Patrick’s 1-11, Tinahely 3-5. A draw.

Well done to all involved with our Division 3 footballers who travelled over the mountains on Saturday afternoon to take on Blessington.

Jack Dunne scored a goal at the death to give the lads a well deserved draw. Full time: Blessington 2-11 St Patrick’s 3-08

Everyone in St Patrick’s wish a speedy recovery to James Kavanagh who broke his collarbone.

Our U15 footballers travelled to play Ballinglen in Annacurra on Wednesday night. Both teams played good football in tough conditions with heavy rain and wind.

Ballinglen put early scores on the board and maintained their lead throughout the game. With five minutes to play Pats had the score down to a two point margin, however a late Ballinglen rally scoring a goal and a point saw them run out deserving winners. Well done to all the St Pats players that traveled and played.

Big well done to our Senior ladies who travelled to Lucan Sarsfields on Wednesday night.

In Division 2 after winning Division 3 last year they knew they would need to work hard, and they didn’t disappoint. They led at half time 2-08 to 2-02.

In the second half their opponents only managed to score a single point with the girls dominating and scoring 2-08 to leave the full time score 4-16 to 2-03.

Well done, ladies. Big shout out to Holly McSorley on making her debut for the senior ladies tonight and putting in a strong performance.
