Memories to last a lifetime for Wicklow RFC side
WICKLOW RFC’S intrepid under-12s departed on their highly anticipated end of season tour on Friday for a weekend of activities at the Killary Adventure Centre combined with some rugby.
The annual under-12s’ tour marks the end of the boys’ careers in minis’ rugby as they progress to youths’ rugby next season.
The Ashtown Lane lads jumped straight into activities on arrival enjoying kayaking, gorge walking, climbing and a giant swing.
Great fun had by all. On Saturday, the team traveled to Castlebar for games with the hosts along with Claremorris and Ballina.
There was some great rugby played and the lads showed huge pride in their new, specially commissioned, tour jerseys.
Wicklow RFC extended a big thanks to everyone at Castlebar for their welcome and hospitality. They were brilliant hosts.
In the afternoon the team returned to Killary in high spirts and ready for more adventure and fun.
On Sunday morning, the lads left the beautiful surroundings of Killary and made their way to Galway Corinthians to play a Corinthians side and a combined Galway side which drew the best players from some surrounding clubs such as Galwegians and Connemara.
The rugby was played at a high tempo in gorgeous sunshine with both teams giving their all in very exciting ties.
Following the matches they retired to the clubhouse for another round of excellent hospitality.
The under-12s look forward to welcoming all their new friends back to County Wicklow in the near future.
Throughout the tour, the boys were a credit to their families and club both on and off the field. Friendships were developed and nurtured and great memories created.
‘Thanks to the organising team and coaches for all their hard work over the last months to make this a truly successful trip,’ they said.
