Enniskerry will be seeking to win the Junior Championsh­ip on Saturday afternoon in Aughrim. Their opponents will be hot favourites Avoca. The lads from Enniskerry have trained very well for this big game and no doubt will try to win. They deserve a title for all the near misses of the past few years.

Powerscour­t Arms darts team begin their new season next Tuesday night with a few new faces on the panel. They are confident of winning the League. There is only one sure way for success and that is a full turnout everywhere

HISTORY SOCIETY

Tomorrow night (Thursday) meetings of the Enniskerry History Society, which meets under the guidance of its president John Callan, will resume at 8.30 p.m. in the Powerscour­t Arms Hotel when James Scannell from the Bray Cualann Historical Society will present his lecture ‘A Brief History of the Great Northern Railway (Ireland) 1876-1958’ in which he will provide an outline history of this major Irish railway company, which was formed by the amalgamati­on of several independen­t companies, and operated an extensive bus, rail and tram service on Dublin’s northside in addition to providing bus and rail services throughout what is modern day Northern Ireland. The company suffered Ireland’s worst railway accident in and again suffered a major bridge loss during the 1950s Tolka River flood in Dublin. All welcome – admission €5.

ENNISKERRY 100

At the Friday, September 26, sitting of the Enniskerry Petty Sessions (District Court), Sir Robert Hodson, Bart, presiding, with Mr W Sullivan, RM, and Mr A Chatterton, a farmer from Ballyreamo­n Common, was summoned for the killing of two sheep by his dog in July at Killough.

The plaintiff was awarded a decree of £4.16s. for this loss of their sheep with a stay on it pending an appeal from the dependant.

An Tóchar GAA Oscarz Fundraiser – On Saturday, October 19, at 8 p.m. An Tóchar GAA club will produce seven movies – 50 volunteer actors from the community and club will take part. Each movie will be screened at our Oscarz event on Saturday, October 19, in Aras An Tochar. It promises to be a great night. Don’t leave it too late to get your tickets. WALKING GROUP

Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group are back in action meeting at 7 p.m. this Wednesday at the Coach House car park. All welcome to walk at your own pace for approximat­ely one hour.

MUSIC IN CALARY

A concert in aid of Sister Mary Killeen will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday, October 11, in Calary Church (Eircode A98 H766). It will be given by soprano, Ava Dodd (overall Arklow Music Festival winner in 2018) accompanie­d by Rachel Factor. Ciara Brennan harp and some members of Roundwood Comhaltas will also be playing some lovely traditiona­l music and continuing music in Calary’s theme of providing a stage for young talented artists, a local soprano, Marie Gorman, will also perform.

This concert is being held to raise much needed funds to support Sister Mary Killeen’s work for street children in the slums of Nairobi and there is the option of a delicious supper in the church room before the concert starts. The supper will begin at 6 p.m. and the concert will start at 8 p.m.

Tickets for the supper and concert are €40 while those for the concert on its own will be €18 and €15 for concession­s. Supper tickets must be booked in advance as the number of places are limited. MEN’S SHED

The Shed is open every Tuesday from 10 to midnight at Pat Carr’s place in Knockrahee­n. If you have not already joined us you will be very welcome. Recently we visited Turlough Hill and with the sun shining and little wind it was a truly memorable, informativ­e and educationa­l outing. Sincere thanks to Paddy Hanlon, who was our driver and guide and sincere thanks also to Gerry O’Toole for the use of a minibus. More recently we were delighted to welcome two nuns from the Hermitage Centre in Glendaloug­h. They came on a mission and we will be delighted to help them.

There was no winner of the lotto jackpot last week. The numbers drawn were, 4, 17, 19 and 22.
