SILVER LINING AS GREYSTONES AND BRAY WIN TIDY TOWNS MEDALS
MEDALS FOR BOTH GREYSTONES AND BRAY AFTER BEING OMITTED AT FIRST
BOTH Bray Tidy Towns and Greystones Tidy Towns will receive silver medals fir their efforts throughout the year, albeit a little late.
They were two of six towns omitted from the competition in error, as their email entries never made it in. After it came to light earlier this month that six towns had been left out of the competition, judging took place during October.
The other towns omitted were Mountrath in County Laois, Ballinamuck in County Longford, and Glenroe and Ballyorgan in County Limerick.
The groups received phone calls yesterday informing them of their scores, with a full report to be sent in the coming week.
Bray received 321 points, an increase of 14 points on last year, Greystones received 316 points, an increase of 316 on the previous year.
Mary Hargaden of Bray Tidy Towns said that the group members are all delighted.
‘We will be very interested to see what scores we received in each section.
‘ The overall mood is that we are thrilled,’ said Mary. ‘We have our AGM tomorrow (Tuesday) and this will be a big boost.’
She said that the plans for the future are based in significant part on recommendations made in the adjudication report.
Marie McCooey of Greystones Tidy Towns said that everyone is over the moon to learn that they have achieved a medal.
‘We worked hard during the year,’ she said. ‘We felt we had done a very strong report. It was a huge team effort. We are just delighted. A huge thanks to everyone who supported Tidy Towns, including the council.’
Both of them congratulated the other town on their achievement.
Bray Tidy Towns will host its annual general meeting this evening ( Wednesday), at 7.30 p.m. in the Strand Hotel.
The agenda will include the minutes of the previous AGM, the annual report, a financial report and the election of committee members.
