Hallowe’en festival building up to finale

ARKLOW’S hauntingly good Hallowe’en festival continues to bring fang-tastic fun to the town this week.

There will be spooky storytelli­ng in Arklow Library today ( Wednesday, October 30) for toddlers and primary school children. The session for toddlers starts at 10 a.m. while mythic monsters is the theme of stories for primary school children at 3 p.m.

Later in the evening, the Asgard Theatre will host a night dedicated to Arklow’s superstiti­ons and folklore. Local poets will recite their spooky rhymes and spells from 8 p.m. Admission is €8 and fancy dress is encouraged.

Meanwhile, there will be lots of family fun on All Hallow’s Eve for the entire family. Arklow Library will show a children’s Hallowe’en movie at 11 a.m. Harry Potter fans can test their knowledge of the wizarding world with a quiz in the library at 12 p.m. Those looking to take part in the Harry Potter events can sign up with a member of Library staff.

A gooey slime workshop will take place in Bridgewate­r Shopping Centre from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. There will be face painters and stilt walkers to entertain the crowds and prizes for the best dressed.

Arklow’s supernatur­al Main Street parade will take place from 7 p.m. The Hallowe’en fun continues with the talent show at 7.20 p.m. at the main stage opposite Bank of Ireland. This year’s theme is ‘if you’ve got it...haunt it’.

A spectacula­r fireworks display will wow the crowds at Arklow Bridge at 8.30 p.m. Families of ghosts, vampires and zombies can dance the night away with the family fun fancy dress party at Arklow Bay Hotel from 9 p.m.
