DELGANY GRANTED €30,000
DELGANY has been awarded a sum of €29,600 as part of the 2019 Town and Village Renewal Scheme, for the development of a greenway feasibility plan and a public realm urban design plan.
Delgany is one of six towns in County Wicklow to benefit from the funding.
In Delgany the public realm urban design plan will look at a design for Convent Road which is in pressing need of regeneration.
‘ The community is delighted to have received this funding,’ said Zoe Woodward from Delgany Community Council. ‘Recent and planned housing developments have led to a substantial increase in the local population,’ she said, ‘ The village centre is used as a through road with constant traffic, poor footpaths and road surfaces. This funding gives us a great opportunity to develop Delgany as a vibrant village centre. The design of a safer, more attractive and vibrant village will benefit the area by generating and sustaining the community with wide ranging economic, social and environmental consequences.
‘It is vital to keep the character and identity of our beautiful village.’
The Greenway feasibility study will look at the possibility of establishing a greenway from Glen of the Downs in Delgany to Greystones following the natural route of the Three Trouts Stream.
Minister Simon Harris TD said that he is ‘so delighted that this Government funding has been awarded to Delgany. A really important project for our village,’ and that he’s ‘looking forward to it progressing and to helping in any way’.
The Delgany Community Council AGM will be held on Wednesday, November 13, at 8 p.m. in the Old School House.
A working group will be established to manage the development of the public realm urban design plan and the Greenway Feasibility Study.
