Council to address dumping at Adelaide Villas property

-

CALLS have been made for illegal dumping at Adelaide Villas in Bray to be cleaned up.

A spokesman said that Bray Municipal District is checking the area out and any waste found at the site will be removed.

The rubbish has been discarded at the site where firemen Brian Murray and Mark O’Shaughnessy lost their lives in 2007.

Deputy John Brady said that he has been reporting the matter to the council for six months.

‘Local residents from Little Bray have also been in touch with the council to report the dumping,’ he said. ‘Unfortunately no action has been taken to either stop the illegal dumping or have it cleaned up.

‘Unfortunately it seems absolutely no lessons have been learned since the devastating fire in 2007 when our brave fire fighters Brian and Mark died.’

Deputy Brady said that prior to the fire in 2007, illegal dumping had been ongoing at the disused building at Adelaide Villas.

‘No action had been taken by the council in addressing the illegal dumping at the site,’ he said. ‘Unfortunately, 12 years later the inaction by the council in tackling the problem is inconceivable.’

He called on the council to take immediate action to ensure that the site is cleaned up and illegal dumping halted.

‘ They must engage with the owner of the site and immediate measures need to be taken to ensure the site is fully secured and cleaned,’ he said. ‘ The people who are doing the illegal dumping must also be held to account for their actions and I would appeal to anyone who has any information about the dumping to bring it forward to the appropriate authorities.’
