Joy at silver medal and points increase
GREYSTONES TIDY TOWNS members are absolutely over the moon to have achieved a silver medal and jumped more points this year than ever before, a spokesperson for the group has said.
They achieved a total of 316 marks, up 13 from the 302 of 2018.
‘You are a dynamic and very active group and the wider Greystones community is very lucky to have you,’ said the adjudicator in the concluding remarks of what was an excellent report. ‘You are on top of all the categories and display great knowledge and interest in all. You are lucky to have such a beautiful area as Greystones to live and work in with its mix of beautiful architecture, coastal habitats and rural hinterland. It is clear, however, that you know and cherish this so Greystones has a bright future ahead with you looking after it.’
‘Overall we were very pleased,’ said Dave O’Reilly on behalf of the group. ‘We did well in the various categories. There is always room for improvement of course!
‘With the small group we achieved an awful lot,’ he said. Dave said that they would love to welcome new people, with all sorts of skills in areas such as administration.
Dave said that members of the group always have great fun together no matter what the task at hand. He had high praise for the chairperson of Greystones Tidy Towns,
Marie McCooey, and her efforts. ‘Marie is the engine that drives us all forwards,’ said Dave.
He said also that they enjoy wonderful cooperation with the district engineer and other council officials and members. They also collaborate with businesses who come on team-building days, as well as the probation services.
The group will be bringing back their Christmas market to the boatyard on weekends throughout December. The market includes Santa, stalls, entertainment and more and will take place on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Santa will be there on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Funds raised go to Tidy Towns as well as to St Vincent De Paul.
