Roundwood students are the smartest in Wicklow

ROUNDWOOD Claim first place at the Allianz Tráth na gCeist: The annual Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Tráth na gCeist took place in Lynham’s Hotel in Laragh on November 7. It was a great night with a good turnout of schools.

In first place came St. Laurence O’Toole, Roundwood; in second place came Kilcoole Primary School and in third place came St. Pat’s Wicklow. Well done to everyone who participat­ed, the standard was very high.

Over 180 Girls Playing Gaelic - On Thursday, October 17, Cumann na mBunscol hosted an Allianz third/fourth class girls football participat­ion blitz in Bray Emmets GAA Club.

Scoil Chualann, Kilmacanog­ue NS, Moneystown, Kilcoole 1 and 2, St Laurences 1 and 2, St Coens 1 and 2, Gaelscoil Uí Chéadaigh 1 and 2, St Fergals, Ashford 1 and and 2 and Gaelscoil Clocha Liatha 1 and 2 took part in a wonderful day of football.

There were great examples of teamwork, excellent high fielding and impressive score taking by the girls.

It was great to see over 180 girls playing Gaelic football in the one location and enjoying themselves.

A special mention to our young whistlers who refereed some of the matches and did a great job. Well done to all!

Young Whistlers Gaelic Football Course - Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Chill Mhantáin will hold our now annual ‘Young Whistlers’ (Gaelic) course on Thursday, November 21, from 3.30-5 p.m. in St.

Anthony’s Hall, Senior Building, Kilcoole Primary School.

This course on November 21 will be for schools in the north-east region and will be co-ordinated this year by our Games Developmen­t Officer.

As places are limited please let Claire Frawley, Runaí know as soon as possible if your school would like to participat­e. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Schools are asked to send a 5th class boy and a girl on the day. These Young Whistlers will be asked to help referee at our upcoming blitzes in the New Year. A responsibl­e, reliable pupil who shows enthusiasm and initiative would be a fantastic candidate! Please forward Claire the names of the children involved and their parents’ names and contact numbers.

Indoor hurling/camogie third and fourth class blitz - The indoor hurling and camogie blitzes are scheduled for this month in Shoreline Greystones. This is a seven-a-side blitz for third and fourth class. Please let Garrett Doyle know ASAP garrett.doyle. gda.wicklow@gaa.ie on which day you would like to attend. Please take note if it is hurling or hurling/camogie listed for that day.

Thursday, November 14, will be hurling only.

Thursday, November 21 - Hurling and Camogie.

Thursday, November 28 - Hurling and Camogie.

On the hurling and camogie day schools can bring both a hurling and camogie team, hurling will be on one court and camogie will be played on the other court.

Keep working on those National Awards - The Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Cornmarket Awards are upon us again and now is the time to promote and showcase the great work your school are doing to promote our Gaelic Games and culture.

The awards event is a memorable and special night which recognises the immense contributi­on that we as teachers give to promoting our national games and culture in our schools.

Entries are to be submitted by Wednesday, January 8, so there is plenty of time to get working on your project!
