REPRESENTATIVES from Tidy Towns groups around Co Wicklow made their way to Co Louth last week to receive their hard-earned medals.

The prize-giving for the Midlands and East region of the Tidy Towns competition took place in Blackrock, Co Louth, on Tuesday, November 12. The winners were presented with their awards by Minister for Rural and Community Development Michael Ring and Maighread Cremin from longtime competition sponsor, SuperValu.

Volunteers from Wicklow and Arklow both collected much-coveted gold medals, while representatives from Aughrim, Bray and Greystones received silver medals.

The County Award was presented to Wicklow Tidy Towns, while Arklow was highly commended and Aughrim commended.

The Endeavour Award, which recognises those in the county who achieved the greatest improvement in score on the previous year, went to Lacken Tidy Towns, while a special award for Waste Prevention was also presented to the Arklow team.

Minister Ring congratulated all those present for their continued hard work.

‘It is fantastic to have the opportunity, this evening, to meet Tidy Towns groups from across the Midlands and East region,’ said Minister Ring. ‘These awards are just a small token for the efforts of so many volunteers who take pride in their home town and work tirelessly to make their community a more sustainable and environmentally friendly place now and for future generations.’
