Classics by Candlelight this Sunday: Classics by Candlelight returns for its tenth year this Sunday at 7 p.m. in Christ Church, Church Road, Bray, Co. Wicklow. An hour of wonderful music for string quartet will be followed by mulled wine and mince pies, which are included in the price of the ticket. (Alcohol-free hot punch means that drivers need not miss out) The musicians all play with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra. It was with great regret and sadness that the Enniskerry History Society, which meets under the guidance of its president John Callan, learned of the recent death of Rev DA Levistone Cooney, immediate past president of the Old Dublin Society, whose funeral service was held last Wednesday morning in Dun Laoghaire Methodist Church.
The Enniskerry History Society extends its deepest sympathy to the relatives of the late Rev Levistone Cooney on their sad loss.
Guest speaker for the Thursday, December 12, meeting of the Enniskerry History Society which takes place at 8.30 p.m. in the Powerscourt Arms Hotel, will be author and journalist Ken Finlay, who will recall ‘366 Days of Dublin’ – all welcome, admission €5.

Candidates, who applied for the post of Enniskerry Dispensary District Midwife due to the resignation of Nurse Maloney, at which Mrs Shera, St Aidan’s Terrace, Bray. was elected to this position at the Tuesday, October 5, 1904, meeting of the Rathdown Board of Guardians in the boardroom (demolished in 1959) of what is now St Columcille’s Hospital, Loughlinstown, at which Mr Thomas Clarke JP presided, were Miss F Doyle, Enniscorthy; Mrs Sylvania McCutcheon, Harcourt Street, Dublin; Miss Josephine Downs, Harold’s Cross, Dublin; Mrs Alger, Clara, Co. Offaly; and Miss McTernan, Moate, Co. Leitrim. The Clerk advised the meeting that he had received an inquiry from a Miss Regan inquiring if the board would increase the advertised salary and that he had replied to her that they would not. Different board members proposed and seconded Mrs Shera, Mrs Shore, Doyle, and Miss Downs, for the position and the vote was taken Mrs Shera was elected by a majority of five votes. Coffee morning.
A coffee morning in aid of the RNLI will take place in Kingfishers Kitchen, Enniskerry Village this Friday from 10 a.m. to midday raffle on the day – your support would be appreciated. through the monastic gates we will proceed to the ruins of the candlelit Cathedral for an evening of traditional carol singing in the monastic style. Some of our most familiar carols would have been sung here by the monks of Glendalough themselves in the eighth and ninth centuries. Tea and coffee will be provided afterwards in the Glendalough Hotel courtesy of Pat Casey. This a free event and open to everyone, including children, which must be accompanied by an adult. Assemble in the Glendalough Hotel car park at 7.15 p.m. Wrap up warm and bring your own lantern/torch and singing voice.

The big switch on for Laragh Christmas Lights will be on Sunday, December 1, at 6 p.m. with Santa coming to the green in front of Lynhams Hotel. Music by Aidan Kelly and Stage Bratz followed by mulled wine, mince pies with festive celebrations in Lynhams of Laragh. Thank you for all the community support given this year to continue this fun, festive annual event.
